We ranked the relationship traits of not only the 11th Street Kids but also some of their closest pals and foes after Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) revealed in the “Peacemaker” finale that he’s ranked all of his friendships.
I examined each character’s actions throughout the entire first season to decide who would be the group’s best buddy since Peacemaker (John Cena) in episode 1 is a very different kind of friend than he is in the finale. There are benefits and drawbacks to each of the kids’ friendships, but only one can be the actual best friend.
Decide which of these hilarious and fierce friendships you would want in your life by looking at where everyone falls below. (Aside from Eagly. Everybody desires an Eagly. That is dishonest.)
From this point forward, “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker” season 1 spoilers will apply.
1. John Economos is the Best Freaking Friend Forever
Who has a golden heart and two thumbs? Who? John Economos, of course! This adorable nerd (played by Steve Agee, who also delivered the motion capture performance for the similarly adorable King Shark in “The Suicide Squad”) is the best friend anyone could ever want for, despite the fact that he dyes his beard and lies about it. Who could blame him? His worst mistake in season one was accusing Auggie (Robert Patrick) of killing the heavy metal chick Peacemaker hooked up with in the first episode. Everyone gets to go home content if you save a vile neo-Nazi supervillain and lock him up at work. except for Auggie.
Economos puts up with being the target of several jokes and works extremely hard at a thankless job. Even if that PowerPoint presentation didn’t win any awards, it was obviously well-made. John Economos follows his own path in a world where everyone tries way too hard to look cool. In the interest of friendship, he acts honourably, puts himself in risk, and may even suffer severe bodily harm—all while wearing a “Three Wolf Moon” shirt! If Economos doesn’t find a love interest or his own BFF in season 2, it’s a crime since he deserves better than to be sitting in a filthy office in Belle Reve by himself.
2. Leota Adebayo is a Very Good Friend
Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) and Peacemaker, whose real name is Christopher Smith, are the key couple at the centre of “Peacemaker.” Due to their shared efforts to move over their violent upbringings, the two forge an unusual bond. While Adebayo’s mother Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), whom we know from “The Suicide Squad,” is absolutely cool with putting an entire island country to death because it will be more politically advantageous, Peacemaker’s father is the white supremacist supervillain the White Dragon.
Chris and Leota don’t get along well at first, but they quickly form a close friendship. On the advice of her mother, Adebayo commits her one significant offence when she hides a phoney diary in Smith’s flat. She does it while knowing she is betraying her buddy out of fear of hurting her mother. Even though it’s a jerk move, it has its own set of issues, and even Smith is willing to overlook them. She clears herself of any wrongdoing with the journal and demonstrates her friendship by going on to reveal the entire Task Force X project and her mother’s involvement. In addition, you can be sure she will send you images of Emerson dressed adorable.
3. Eagly is the Best Bird/Feathered Friend
Because an eagle cannot be housebroken without also destroying its spirit and because bird poop is extremely difficult to remove off furniture, Eagly isn’t higher on this list. He is great except from that and deserves to be handed lots of chips. Additionally, he’ll bring you a tonne of gifts.
4. Emilia Harcourt is the Friend You Have to Get to Know
Although Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) presents a chilly exterior and a similarly chilly core, there is a soft, small kernel of love hidden inside. Because of a life spent working in black ops, Harcourt has been forced to grow tough, yet she is not a cruel monster. Her discussions with Adebayo on overcoming the moral difficulties of their work are wonderful and provide insight into Harcourt’s experiences. She is the kind of friend who takes time to open up, but once she does, you know she has your back forever. When necessary, you need a friend who will be willing to give you some severe love as long as they also give you some soft affection. If it’s in a nice group conversation, bonus points.
5. Sophie Song is the Friend Who’s Slightly Too Real
Everyone ought to have at least one friend who will call them on their b.s. It’s always a good idea to have one realist to keep you humble because if you surround yourself with people who just agree with you and hype you up, you’ll inevitably wind up making bad life decisions.
One of the most straightforward police officers in TV history is Sophie Song (Annie Chang), whose deadpan style and dry sense of humour make her a likeable supporting character. Sadly, Sophie perishes when the Goff butterfly attacks her, yet a few remnants of Sophie survive in the Goff-infected version, at least until Peacemaker shoots her in the conclusion. Sophie’s passing is sad because, despite the fact that she was possessed by an alien insect, she was a cool person, a gifted investigator, and a great friend. Who else could possibly endure Fitzgibbon’s humour?
6. Peacemaker is the Friend You Constantly Apologize For
Although he appears to be making genuine efforts to improve himself throughout the series, Peacemaker from “The Suicide Squad” would rank near the bottom of our list. He’s still the friend you know you’ll have to apologise to, but at least he does his best and doesn’t get upset when you point it out to him (most of the time).
In trying to protect himself from his own suffering, Peacemaker spent the majority of his life acting cruelly, and he’s still learning how to treat other people. He is a very difficult friend to have because of this, but he is committed to the death and has demonstrated genuine empathy throughout the series. Even though he has never had a (human) buddy before and finds the whole situation to be very perplexing, he ultimately shows that he is a terrific friend to have.
7. Vigilante is the Wild Card
Each team possesses a wild card. One friend is always a potential issue, but you never know when or how that issue will surface. The 11th Street Kids’ Adrian, a.k.a. Vigilante, serves as the wild card, keeping everyone on their toes and ensuring that life never becomes too monotonous.
Even though Vigilante is a true psychopath who struggles with emotions, he at least makes an effort to be a decent human being. His connection with Peacemaker initially seems more like a strange infatuation, but it soon becomes clear that Peacemaker is all Vigilante has. He doesn’t have any other friends, but he’s willing to confront a group of white supremacists and have himself put in jail if it could help his one friend feel less lonely. Vigilante is complex, and maybe season 2 will allow us to witness him develop even further. Because “Peacemaker” has shown us that almost everyone is deserving of redemption.
8. Judomaster is the Frenemy
Even though Judomaster (Nhut Le) doesn’t have a lot of talk, he still appears like a fun person to be around. He has excellent choice in snacks, can chat with the best of them, and can take down bullies. Cheetos are “Flamin’ Hot” for life!
It’s a lot of fun to watch Peacemaker and Judomaster compete against one another. They may beat each other to a pulp and even shoot the unfortunate Judomaster, but that’s kind of the point—they’re superheroes and bad guys. A friend like Judomaster might not be invited to your niece’s piano recital, but if you go into a full-blown rage, he just might get added to the email list. Judomaster has got some major keg stands, I guess.
9. Amanda Waller is the Toxic Boss You Finally Bailed On
The mother of Adebayo and the boss of the 11th Street Kids, Amanda Waller, is a nasty mistress. In “The Suicide Squad,” she commands Peacemaker to kill Rick Flag as a sacrifice before accusing Peacemaker of carrying out every action Project Butterfly takes to halt the butterfly invasion. She is cutthroat and makes judgements with solely the bottom line in mind.
Even Adebayo has decided she’s had enough of Waller’s schemes by the end of season 1, spilling her beans on live television. Economos is the only person still employed at Belle Reve, and if Waller has any significant repercussions, he might not stay in his miserable job for very long. Even if they are family, there are times when you need to cut individuals out of your life because they are truly toxic.
10. Auggie Smith is the Relative Who Keeps Trying to Get You to Reply to his Racist Tweets
No matter how many times we ban them or lock our accounts, the majority of us have a racist relative who sends us offensive memes or conspiracy theories on social media. Auggie Smith is a representation of those annoying ancestors: a perennially grimacing grandfather whose knowledge of world politics most likely stems from a diet of growth hormones and unfiltered water. Peacemaker even makes an attempt to fully cut off his father, killing him in the season’s last episode, but, like those relatives with their spam, he keeps popping up in visions or as a ghost or something. I really don’t want to hear about the deep state, Uncle Fred.
HBO Max currently has the entire first season of “Peacemaker” available for streaming.
