Update: Deadline has reported that Harrison Ford will make his acting debut in “Captain America: New World Order” as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Ford may or may not appear in “Thunderbolts” is still up in the air.
Since Robert Downey, Jr. helped launch the brand in 2008 with “Iron Man,” which allowed nearly every movie star under the sun to want to get in on the action, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has never been short on star power. Nearly 15 years later, Kevin Feige may have just accomplished the greatest victory since taking over as Marvel’s CEO.
The “Thunderbolts” movie, which confirmed earlier rumours that the comic book team-up spectacular was in active development with the studio, has been known to us since this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Fans may have reasonably anticipated a lineup that included individuals like Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster, Hannah John-Ghost, Kamen’s and others based on typical depictions of the squad in the comics. Many people also believed Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross would have a major part in the movie. Sadly, those plans were disrupted by the tragic death of actor William Hurtt, but Marvel hasn’t missed a beat.
We have independent confirmation that the information shared during the live broadcast of The Hot Mic With John Rocha and Jeff Sneider is accurate. Yes, you read that right, a new actor will take on the character of Thaddeus Ross. Richard Ford
Thaddeus Ross has been recast with Harrison Ford
There are significant franchise castings and significant franchise castings. With Harrison Ford joining the MCU, Kevin Feige can add superheroes to his illustrious resume, which is a great feather in his crown as the “Actor Wars,” “Indiana Jones,” and “Blade Runner” star. Ford has finished filming the upcoming “Indiana Jones” movie, so he won’t be expected to perform much in the way of true action, but the source material has Thaddeus Ross performing a position for the Thunderbolts antihero team that is somewhat akin to Amanda Waller for the Suicide Squad.
Ford will make his acting debut as the character in the upcoming “Captain America: New World Order,” according to Sneider, despite the fact that one may anticipate he would have a significant part in the “Thunderbolts” film.
Of course, the thought of Ford using the same motion capture technology that Mark Ruffalo and Tatiana Maslany have employed to bring their different Hulk avatars to life is mind-boggling. Ross does, after all, transform into the “Red Hulk” in the Marvel Comics. We’re intrigued to see how this plays out, regardless of how Ford’s particular position develops and despite how much William Hurt’s presence will be sadly missed.
Julius Onah will helm “Captain America: New World Order,” which will hit theatres on May 23, 2024. On July 26, 2024, “Thunderbolts” will hit theatres under the direction of Jake Schreier (“Robot & Frank,” “Paper Towns”).
