My Brilliant Friend Season 4 Is Coming To HBO, But It Will End The Series

The third season of the HBO Italian drama series “My Brilliant Friend” debuted in February of this year, delighting viewers who have grown incredibly attached to Lila (Gaia Girace) and Elena/intertwined Len’s lives (Margherita Mazzucco).

Despite the fact that season 4 of the show is already in production, Elena and Lila’s story will sadly come to an end because, according to TVLine, season four of “My Brilliant Friend” will also be the last. Season 4 of “My Brilliant Friend” will be based on “The Story of the Lost Child,” the final book of Elena Ferrante’s quadrilogy, as the series is a direct adaptation of Ferrante’s novels.

A brilliant saga of friendship comes to an end

The third season of “My Brilliant Friend” focused on Lila’s struggles at the workplace, sparking crucial discussions on harassment, discrimination, and the taking away of physical autonomy. Elena’s struggles, in comparison, are more intellectual and externalised in nature because the central theme of her story is her search for identity as a budding author. This is obviously very different from what Lila must go through. In general, the series follows them over the course of their lives, tracing their friendship, the ways in which they interact and diverge, and forging their own pathways that intersect in crucial ways at different times.

The experiences of Lila and Elena generated bittersweet emotions, and Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, described how the narrative always brimmed with a lot of “heart”:

“When we decided to bring Elena Ferrante’s masterpiece Neapolitan Novels to the screen, we knew Elena and Lila’s story had to be told in its entirety. It’s both thrilling and bittersweet to embark on this fourth and final season. We’re deeply grateful to the entire creative team led by Saverio Costanzo and Lorenzo Mieli and to our season 3 director Daniele Luchetti. We look forward to completing the quartet and know The Story of the Lost Child will bring the series to a close with the same heart, intimacy, and epic storytelling that has defined Elena and Lila’s journey from the beginning.”

Fans of “My Brilliant Friend” may be disappointed by this news, but all stories must come to an end at some point, and the story that centres on the two friends has so far been rich, complex, enriching, and beautiful. “My Brilliant Friend” also features Alba Rohrwacher, Alessandro Nardi, Anna Rita Vitolo, Luca Gallone, and Imma Villa in addition to Girace and Mazzucco. For season 4, no potential new cast members have been revealed, and no precise premiere date has been given.

HBO’s “My Brilliant Friend” Season 3 premiered on February 28, 2022. Every Monday, there are brand-new episodes, and the season finale is set for April 18, 2022.
