Reebok Resurrects The Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Sneakers With An Afterlife Twist

Reebok and the “Ghostbusters” franchise collaborated to create their first pair of sneakers in October 2020 that were inspired by the supernatural comedy. Since then, they’ve launched a number of additional pairs of themed shoes influenced by movies, from the first “Ghostbusters” movie from 1984 to last year’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.” With the re-release of the original Ghost Smasher shoe by Reebok and “Ghostbusters,” which was based on the Ecto-1 but upgraded with a new look inspired by the legendary vehicle from “Afterlife,” the past and present are now coming together. Even better, there’s an added glow-in-the-dark element that was inspired by the sticky, green ectoplasm that Slimer sprays everywhere.

The newest “Ghostbusters” Reebok sneakers may be seen below.

The “Ectoplasm” edition (GX1648) of the Ghost Smasher sneakers has the same design as the initial release, but it’s been given a more worn-in appearance to mimic the Ecto-1’s worn-down appearance from “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” in Egon’s farmhouse. Both the tongue of the sneaker and the proton pack connection, which is detachable from the sneakers themselves, include a glow-in-the-dark component. Also noted by Reebok

“The new iteration of the Ghost Smasher will ship in repurposed OG Pump packaging from the ’80s, as did the first version of the silhouette. On the box “Less talk…more busting” is written over the classic Reebok logo while “This is how it ends” nods to the ominous Ghostbusters theme.”

Whether it’s because they make you look like a mad scientist or because you don’t want to get them dirty, these aren’t exactly the kind of shoes you’d wear to the grocery store. However, they might be a fantastic addition to an outfit for a “Ghostbusters” movie party or a pop culture conference.

I didn’t get the original pair of Ghost Smasher sneakers when they were released, but I’ll make an effort to get these for my “Ghostbusters” collection. There are some excellent movie-themed shoes available for cinephiles, such these and the “Jurassic Park” sneakers that Reebok released.

Starting March 16, 2022 at 10:00 AM ET, Reebok UNLOCKED members will be able to purchase the $200 pair of shoes they choose, but only if they have the money to do so.
