It’s time to say goodbye to a few titles on HBO Max as December (and 2020) comes to an end. The streaming service is now dumping a few movies, some of which are really good. So scroll down to view the movies that HBO Max will be discontinuing in January 2021.
Before Sunrise
Before Sunrise finds Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy meeting on a train from Budapest and obviously falling head over heels for one another. It is a lovely, swooning, romantic movie that started an entire trilogy. The chemistry between Hawke and Delpy and Richard Linklater’s directing transform what could have been a pretty dull experience into something spectacular as they wander around Vienna talking and flirting.
Ad Astra
James Gray’s gloomy journey across space
Wonder Woman 1984
In the heartbreaking space movie Ad Astra, astronaut Brad Pitt sets out to find his father, Tommy Lee Jones, who disappeared many years ago while on a search for extraterrestrial life. Ad Astra, which is introspective, dark, and distinctive, bombed at the box office since it’s not exactly a “crowd-pleaser.” However, the film merits a viewership, so you might want to see it before HBO Max removes it.
Enemy Of The State
On Christmas Day, Wonder Woman 1984 was released on HBO Max, and the reception was, to put it mildly, mixed. But if the superhero sequel is still on your bucket list, you’d better get moving since it won’t be around for long. All of Warner Bros.’ planned 2021 films will be released directly on HBO Max, although, similar to Wonder Woman 1984, they will all follow a 30-day timeframe before leaving the streaming channel.
Magnolia
Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation feels like a not-so-secret sequel to Tony Scott’s ultra-hyper, ultra-funEnemy of the State. However, while Coppola’s film was contemplative and subdued, Enemy of the State is all bombast, which is excellent. Will Smith is a hotshot lawyer who unintentionally becomes involved in a government plot and needs the assistance of retired CIA operative Gene Hackman. Additionally, as the movie is set around Christmas, if you’re still in the mood for a Christmas movie, here you go.
Movies Leaving HBO Max in January 2021
An almost-masterpiece is produced by Paul Thomas Anderson’s sprawlingMagnolia, which checks in with various connected people who reside in Los Angeles. Magnolia seems to have cooled down in popularity with time, with even director Paul Thomas Anderson saying that he now finds the film to be way too long. I’m here to tell you, though, that Magnolia is still a fantastic picture by a fantastic director.
