Moviegoers have been trained to stay for a brief extra treat after the credits of superhero films like “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s usually a delightful addition that serves as the cherry on top of your movie-watching experience, whether it’s a preview of what’s going to happen next or just a cheeky jest.
However, a post-credits scene is also seen in a lot of non-superhero films. One of the most well-known scenes in movie history is undoubtedly when Ferris Bueller tells everyone to go home. The John Hughes classic is imitated by The Bob’s Burgers Movie by adding an extra scene after the credits, despite not quite being as jokingly hostile as Matthew Broderick’s renowned teen film.
Post-credits scenes are uncommon in movies without superheroes in the current theatrical landscape. But we want to let you know that the Belchers’ first major motion picture adventure does, in fact, feature one in an effort to be as helpful as we can to our readers who are “Bob’s Burgers” fans. (However, if you don’t want to know what it is, we advise you to click away right away because we discuss SPOILERS on the following slide.)
Horsing around
The post-credits scene for “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” revisits Tina’s famous (or infamous?) friend fiction where she and Jimmy Jr. are riding horses on the beach, only this time they’re both riding on Tina’s horse, Jericho, and they’re not alone. Bob (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin), Linda (John Roberts), Tina (Dan Mintz), Gene (Eugene Mirman), and Louise (Kristen Schaal) are Actually, several zombies have joined them; they are swarming the young Pesto and probably succumbing to their cannibalistic urges. The eldest Belcher child protests a little, but after he says it’s okay, the scene cuts to darkness as Tina revels in her fantasy scenario.
For longtime viewers of the animated Fox series, this is a wonderful flashback as the daydream includes three of Tina’s four great loves: Jimmy Jr., zombies, and horses. Who really knows what sequence she would list her family (the fourth one, presumably) in? The filmmakers extended these references a little bit earlier in the film as Tina struggles with asking the real Jimmy Jr. to be her summer boyfriend, but they included this final reference just for good measure, probably in an effort to keep viewers interested until the 13th season of the show debuts the following year. So, even if it doesn’t directly relate to the movie’s plot or what happens afterwards, this post-credits scene qualifies as a clever joke.
Get it? because Tina enjoys butts and Jimmy Jr. is wearing underwear? Yes, I understand.
On May 27, 2022, “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” will be available in theatres.
