Even the greatest of us occasionally wish for a return to childhood when faced with a continuous stream of expenses and duties because adult life may be difficult. The most of us, though, would never genuinely attempt to manipulate that return by pretending to be adolescent orphans long into our thirties. Then there is Barbora Skrolva, whose tale seems to have been lifted directly from the 2009 horror film “Orphan.”

    The Real Life Esther

    Warner Bros. Pictures

In “Orphan,” an unprepared couple adopts a strange 9-year-old girl named Esther, albeit they definitely should have addressed their own problems first. They learn too late that Esther is not at all who she claimed to be, despite the fact that she is undoubtedly a little freak with significant problems and a shrouded history. She is truly a profoundly disturbed, homicidal grown woman with disturbing intents; she is not a youngster. Leena, a 33-year-old serial killer and escaped mental patient, is Esther’s real name. Those who took in the very real Barbora Skrolva were actively involved in her deception, unlike the unfortunate family who adopted Esther, who had no idea of her true identity or nature until her violent conduct became intolerable.

Barbora Skrlova was an adult lady who had a terrible history of disguising herself as a youngster, just like her fictional horror movie counterpart. She initially pretended to be a little girl named Anicka, age 13, who had been “adopted” by two sisters named Klara and Katerina Mauerova. Klara purposefully assumed the role of Barbora’s adoptive mother by referring to her two young sons as her “brothers.” The boys, who were just 8 and 10 years old at the time, were subjected to horrifying child abuse by the adults, including Barbora.

According to a press report, “One of Kl Ra’s boys, an eight-year-old named Ond ej, was being kept in a broom cupboard while being kept naked, tied, and imprisoned. Witnesses claim that he was assaulted, tormented, and forced to eat his own vomit.” A camera installed within the cabinet was used to keep an eye on the young youngster.

The video feed from the camera was accidentally picked up by a neighbor’s baby monitoring system, which led to the discovery of their terrible treatment. The neighbours were met by the horrifying, gut-wrenching sight of a young boy who was underweight and promptly called the police, who then detained Klara and took the kids out of the house.

    Barbora on the Run

    Warner Bros. Pictures

Anicka was able to maintain her ruse because the authorities had no reason to suspect her of any wrongdoing because they were unaware of her true identity as 32-year-old Barbora Sklorva. By enrolling Barbora in a children’s home, from which she eventually fled, Katerina, Klara’s sister, helped Barbora carry on her ruse. A search was launched as soon as “Anicka’s” absence was discovered. When it became clear that there were no genuine records of the girl’s existence, authorities and staff were astounded. What started as a missing person’s case eventually led to the conclusion that Anicka was actually Barbora when someone was able to recognise her from a photo.

Barbora had been living as Adam, a 13-year-old boy, in Olso, Norway, when she was ultimately discovered. Barbora was 33 years old at the time. She had been taken in by a family there who had made an effort to get her enrolled in school. When she was eventually apprehended, her name was made known and examined in the trial as well as in the Scandinavian media.

    Courtrooms, Cults, and Confusion

    Warner Bros. Pictures

After being apprehended, Barbora was put on trial for her role in defrauding the children’s home where she was housed while posing as Anicka. She might have spent up to two years in jail for this, but she was eventually let out without incident. However, she was promptly detained outside the courts for her involvement in the child abuse that occurred while she was living as Klara’s adopted daughter.

There was a lot of discussion over Barbora’s motives and whether or not she was a voluntary participant or victim in the acts she committed in the period before her conviction. One possibility included the two women who first took in Barbora, Klara and Katerina, being members of a minor religious cult. Another explanation for Barbora’s actions is that she has experienced trauma and has serious mental health problems. While Barbora hasn’t attempted to explain why she took her decisions, she has commented about how simple it was for her to adopt new, innocent identities “Managing both Anicka’s and Barunka’s lives was never an issue for me. It is considerably more difficult for me now that Anicka is no longer here. I’ll wait and see how the populace treats me. I don’t trust others, thus I just need to communicate with individuals I am familiar with well.”

Whatever the circumstances, Barbora nonetheless contributed to the agony of helpless kids. Barbora was convicted of child abuse in 2008 and given an eight-year prison term.

Unexpectedly, Barbora was given early release from prison in 2011 after her attorneys successfully established that she wasn’t mentally sound and that her state hadn’t gotten any better while she was there. She received a five-year probationary period, therefore she has been unrestricted since 2016. We may never fully understand why Barbora decided to live such a bizarre and frightening life while pretending to be an orphan because her current whereabouts are unknown.
